
G.Skill has unveiled its new DDR5-6400 CL30 memory kits, designed to offer a combination of high capacity, fast speeds, and low latency for both Intel and AMD processors. These new kits, part of the Trident Z5 RGB and Trident Z5 Royal series, come in a 96GB (2x48GB) configuration, with 64GB and 48GB options also in development. The kits promise to deliver DDR5-6400 speeds with CL30 timings, utilizing Intel’s XMP 3.0 for easy overclocking. G.Skill has also demonstrated the memory’s performance on AMD Ryzen 9000 series processors.
When paired with an Asus ROG Maximus Z890 Hero motherboard and Intel’s Core Ultra 7 265K Arrow Lake CPU, the memory runs at the advertised speeds of 6400 MT/s, with tight CL30-39-39-102 timings.
Although G.Skill hasn’t officially marketed the memory as supporting EXPO (for AMD systems), they’ve shown it running on an AMD platform too. With an Asus ROG Crosshair X870E Hero motherboard and a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, the memory also runs at DDR5-6400 CL30-39-39-102 speeds. However, keep in mind that EXPO support may be necessary for optimal performance on all AMD systems. For those looking for even tighter timings, G.Skill also offers DDR5-6000 CL26 kits tailored for AMD Ryzen 9000 processors.
For Intel Arrow Lake CPUs, official memory support is DDR5-6400 for CUDIMMs and DDR5-5600 for regular DIMMs. While you can exceed these speeds with XMP, pushing beyond these limits typically requires CUDIMM sticks. On AMD Ryzen 9000 or Granite Ridge processors, DDR5-6400 is the sweet spot, ensuring a 1:1 ratio between the fabric and memory clocks. Ryzen 7000 or Raphael processors may require some fine-tuning for stability, as they perform best with DDR5-6000 speeds.
These new memory kits will be available in the Trident Z5 RGB and Trident Z5 Royal series, supporting overclocking via XMP 3.0 on compatible motherboards. You’ll need at least a B860 motherboard to enable memory overclocking, as budget H810 boards don’t support it. The expected price is around $350, which is similar to other CL32 kits currently available.
G.Skill will also offer smaller capacities of 64GB (2x32GB) and 48GB (2x48GB). These kits are expected to hit the market this quarter, so if you’re planning an upgrade, keep an eye out for availability.
